about a Québec ancestor

Vol. 137, No. 7 (July & August 2009) covers the ancestry of Pierre LAPORTE, a Québec Minister, who was killed by his kidnappers in 1970. In this article we learn more about Jacques de LAPORTE dit SAINT-GEORGES (Jacques+Marie HAMELIN), who was born in Norcé, a small village in Perche near Bellême and Montargne in l'Orne, west of Paris, FRANCE. He arrived in Canada about 1650 and settled in Montréal, QC. In 1657-09-03, he married Marie DUCHESNE (François+Marie ROLET). Nicole was from Larochelle, FRANCE. Between 1659 and 1682, the couple had 11 children.

Vol. 137, No. 8 (September 2009) gives us a look at François GUIRE, who was born in Thiviers, Périgord, FRANCE in 1611 & who died 1699-09-12 in Québec. A weaver by profession, a farmer and soldier in the Carignan Company, he married a "Daughter of the King" (Fille du Roi), Marie-Michelle DENEAU (Pierre+Jeanne DUPOTEAU) in 1670 in Saint-Ours, Richelieu County, QC. She was from the village of L'Épine in Marne, about 150km east of Paris, FRANCE. François is the ancestor of the GUIRE, DEGUIRE, LAROSE & DESROSIERS.
